70 traffic tickets were issued, and 8 vehicles seized, by the Westmoreland police during an operation in Savannah La Mar, yesterday (Sep 1).

Head of the Division Superintendent Gary McKenzie told Irie FM News that the operation was geared towards sensitizing motorists, and ensuring compliance with regulations, ahead of the start of the new school year.

The operation was done in collaboration with the Road Safety Unit (RSU).

During the operation, several drivers were found to be operating their vehicles without a license, and others were charged for breaches such as obstructing traffic.

Superintendent McKenzie said the team from the RSU educated drivers about tyre pressure and the dangers of overloading the vehicle.

He said the police will be meeting with taxi operators, today.
