Following the death of a 12-year-old in Lilliput, St. James, this morning (Feb. 21, 2022), Councillor for the Rose Hall division, Anthony Murray, is calling for the elegant corridor to be declared a safe school zone.

The deceased has been identified as Jeff Fitzgerald.

According to reports from the police, Jeff was attempting to cross the main road in an area known as bamboo lawn about 7 a-m when he was hit by a Nissan AD wagon.

He was taken to hospital where he died.

Speaking in an interview with Irie FM News, Councillor Murray, who is also the principal of nearby Barrett Town Primary, said Jeff was a student of Spot Valley High.

Mr. Murray said a number of students have died in accidents along the corridor over the years.

He noted that this led him to take action at the last municipal council meeting calling for attention to be paid to the issue.
