by May 3rd, 2018

Thirteen alleged gangsters are among 94 persons arrested during a major police military operation in Westmoreland earlier today (May 3).

The joint police military operation was in response to the gun attack on about 15 people, 7 fatally, in the Grange Hill community on Tuesday.

Those held today are said to be members of the Dexter Street gang.

Police say the Dexter  Street gang has been engaged in a turf war with rivals, the Dalling Street Gang, in Savanna-La-Mar.

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says the gangsters were picked up from various locations across the parish.

The Police Commissioner adds that officers are using intelligence to aid in their efforts to disrupt the flow of financial resource to violence producers.

Meantime, Head of the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC), Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey says the 13 alleged gang members arrested in Westmoreland earlier today, will be processed in Kingston.

The men are said to be part of the Dexter Street gang.

ACP Bailey says police had previously arrested 5 other alleged members of the  gang, during a separate operation, some time ago.

He says the Dexter street gang is responsible for several incidents of crime and violence in Westmoreland.

The 2 men were speaking at a press conference in Montego Bay this afternoon, where the police provided an update on the joint police military operations in Westmoreland.
