Thirteen firearms were seized and one man was fatally shot by police in Florence Hall, Trelawny this morning (February 3).
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Kevin Carpenter.
The police say Carpenter was an ex-convict and a reputed top-tier member of the Trelawny-based Compound Gang.
A woman was also arrested following the incident.
Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says the incident occurred at Florence Housing Scheme at about 11:30 am.
In addition to the guns, several lead sheets were also found during the incident.
Major General Anderson is urging law-abiding citizens to be vigilant, as gunmen are moving to upscale communities.
Over one hundred firearms have been seized in Jamaica since the start of the year.
