1,968 Covid-19 cases account for record number of daily cases

Jamaica has recorded almost 2,000 Covid-19 cases in a single day.

The Health Ministry is reporting that 1,968 persons tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, bringing the overall case count to 112, 218.

Of that number 1,135 are females and 833 are males ranging in age from 9 days to 95 years.

The positivity rate is 31.7 percent.

St James recorded the highest number of cases with 5-hundred and 34 followed by St Catherine with 386.

Meantime, a one year old girl is among 8 of the latest persons to die from Covid-19.

This brings the death tally to 2,530.

The deaths occurred between September 1 last year and January 13 this year.

Five of the deceased lived in St Catherine, two in St Ann and one in Manchester.

Two other deaths are under investigation.

446 persons remain in hospital. 41 are severely ill, 7 critically ill and 87 moderately ill.

95 more persons have recovered from Covid-19 bringing that tally to 67, 142.
