With the expected impact of rising global oil prices on many Jamaicans, especially the most vulnerable, the government will be assisting through a 2 billion dollar programme.
This was announced by Finance Minster Dr. Nigel Clarke, during his budget debate presentation, on Tuesday.
Dr. Clarke said the programme will target, among other groups, persons on path, and transport operators.
The minister also indicated that the government will be putting in place mechanisms to help decrease Jamaica’s dependence on fuel.
These include incentives to encourage more persons to buy electronic vehicles.
As such, the import duty for these vehicles will be lowered.
