Two people were killed and three wounded in Salt Spring, St James between last night and this morning (September 23, 2015).

Dead are a 41-year-old mason of Lammie Lane and 18-year-old shopkeeper, Joseph Whittaker also called T.K. of Reepasture both in Salt Spring.

In the latest incident, about 10:15 this morning, residents heard explosions coming from a section of Lammie Lane.

The police were called, and the body of the 41-year-old mason was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, Joseph Whittaker was killed during an alleged shootout between gunmen in the community about 10:30 last night.

Investigators say the police were summoned and upon arrival at the scene, four men were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were rushed to hospital where Whittaker was pronounced dead and the others admitted in critical condition.

It is believed that one of the three wounded men was among a group who opened fire on Whittaker.

The police say residents in the area are tight-lipped about the incident.
