2 members of Marcus Garvey High missing; major search effort planned for tomorrow

Another member of the Marcus Garvey Technical High School in St. Ann has gone missing.

Reports came on the weekend, that a student 14 year old Amanda Prince has been missing since last Thursday September 16.

This is one day after Math teacher 34 year old Ruchelle Williams, of Goshen District was last seen.

Its been a tough week for the Marcus Garvey school community, as members try to cope with the news that two members have gone missing.

Late last week it was reported that teacher Ruchelle Williams could not be found, days later the search is on for 14-year-old Amanda Prince a grade 9 student.

Principal at Marcus Garvey Technical High Anniona Jones says the school is shaken by the developments. She heard about Amanda’s disappearance late yesterday (September 19).

Police have issued an Ananda Alert for Amanda Prince who is also called Kibby of Farmers Heights in St. Ann’s Bay.

She is of brown complexion, slim build and about 165 centimetres or 5 feet 5 inches tall.

Reports from the St. Ann’s Bay Police are that Amanda was last seen at home about 10:30 a.m., it’s reported that she left home to visit her mother. She was wearing a burgundy t-shirt, a pair of blue jeans pants and multi-coloured socks. All efforts to locate her have proven futile.

Police are urging anyone who knows the whereabouts of Amanda Prince to contact the St. Ann’s Bay police or the nearest police station.

Meantime, Ms. Williams is of dark complexion, medium build and is about 5 feet 2 inches tall.

Reports from the Brown’s Town Police, are that, about 4:00 p.m.-last Wednesday (September 15), Williams was last seen at a plaza. When last seen she was dressed in a yellow blouse and a pair of cream pants and pair of brown slippers.

Police say, all efforts to contact her have proven futile.


Her mother Sheryl Williams is appealing for her daughter’s safe return.

Ms. Williams has been teaching at Marcus Garvey since September 2019.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Ruchelle Williams, is asked to contact the Browns Town Police, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.

The Marcus Garvey Principal is also appealing for the public’s help in finding Ruchelle Williams and Amanda Prince.

A major search effort is planned for tomorrow (September 21) involving teachers from Marcus Garvey Technical High.

It will be supported by the Jamaica Teachers Association, other stakeholders in the education sector, the family and friends of missing teacher Ruchelle Williams, her community and the police.

Principal of Marcus Garvey Technical High Anniona Jones says the search party members will meet in Brown’s Town at 7 am.

She states that anyone wishing to participate in the search is welcomed.

Ms. Jones says the school has been offering support to her colleagues, students and family.

And as it relates to Amanda Prince, Ms. Jones says the school is assisting in the efforts to locate her.
