250 to be recruited in November for National Service Corp

by September 26th, 2017

The Jamaica Defense Force will welcome another 250 recruits in November as part of the Jamaica National Service Corp.

This follows the training of the first cohort which graduated last Saturday.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the first cohort which completed 13 weeks of intense training, comprises 232 privates and 2 potential officers.

Mr. Holness adds that these newly minted soldiers will be instilled with the principle to learn, earn, give back and save.

He says while the first intake of recruits had no women, the second cohort will accommodate females.

The Jamaica National Service Corp is the new intake mechanism for the JCF, whereby a total of one thousand persons will be recruited annually and trained over a one year period in military, vocational and broader life skills.

Mr. Holness says this represents an increase in intake of over 700 persons per year.

The Prime Minister adds that the JNSC is one manifestation of government’s strategy to deal with crime, corruption, domestic abuse, unemployment and indiscipline which impact the country’s economic development and security.
