4 men and 8 women nominated for 2018 National Sports Man and Sports Woman of the year award

Four men and eight women have been nominated for the 58th staging of the National Sports Man and Sports Woman of the year award set for Friday January 18 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston.

This coming out of today’s launch in Kingston.

The list on the men’s side, includes”  Fredrick Dacres who won discus gold medal at the commonwealth games in Australia, and took the gold IAAF Continental Cup and the NACAC championship in Toronto…..all Jamaica and Caribbean squash champion Chris Binnie who created history when he won the silver in the pan am championship this year.

The others on the men side are: sprint hurdler Ronald levy who was a gold medal winner at the Commonwealth Games and finished second at the IAAF continental cup, along with Odayne Richards who took gold at the CAC Games in the discipline of shot putt.

The eight nominee in the women’s category is headed by swimmer Ali Atkinson who established a new world record of 28.56 seconds in the women’s 50 metres breastroke, set at the Budapest stop of the 2018 FINA World Cup in Hungary, ………3000 metres steeple chase runner Aisha Praught – leer who was a gold medal winner at the Commonwealth Games.

The other commonwealth gold medal winners in the women’s nomination includes – national 400 metres champion Jenieve Russell, shot putter Daniel Thomas-Dodd and long jumper Kimberly Williams.

The list is completed by striker Khadijah Shaw who helped the reggae girls to an historic qualification for the 2019 FIFA World Cup in France, West Indies and Jamaica cricket captain Stafanie Taylor and triple jumper Shanieka Ricketts.
