by March 3rd, 2022

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is to receive 50 more buses by August.

Transport Minister Audley Shaw says the new vehicles will push the fleet tally to 300 with another 100 electronic and compressed natural gas buses to come.

He said the intention is to have a mixture of new, repaired, electronic, and gas powered buses, in the fleet.

He was speaking Tuesday during parliaments standing finance committee.

Meantime, opposition spokesman on transport Mikail Phillips asked about an increase in the budgetary allocation for the maintenance of vehicles.

The government has allocated $2.1 billion dollars for maintenance.

This is more than the $1.5 billion used last year.

In response, Mr Shaw explained that the funding aligns with the governments plan to bring the JUTC fleet up to the required standards.
