559 hospitalized with Covid-19; 555 new cases recorded

Sixty-five more persons have been hospitalized with Covid 19, in the last 24 hours.

The Health Ministry says 559 persons are in hospital, up from the 494 reported yesterday (August 18).

Of those hospitalised, 100 are moderately ill and 36 are critically ill.

Meantime, 555 Covid-19 cases were recorded yesterday, pushing the country’s case count to 59,932.

Of the new cases, 328 are females and 227 are males.

They range in age from 45 days to 99 years.

The positivity rate is 41.9 per cent.

St. Catherine recorded the highest number of cases with 90, followed by Kingston and St. Andrew with 81.

The Health Ministry is also reporting three more deaths, pushing the death toll to 1,342.

The deaths occurred on August 17.

The deceased are a 60-year-old female from Kingston and St. Andrew, a 94-year-old male from St. Thomas and a 53-year-old female from Clarendon.

1 more death is now under investigation.

29 more persons have recovered pushing the tally to 47,599.

10,617 cases are active.
