Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has stated that, of the 29 suspected cases of dengue related deaths, only 6 have been confirmed so far this year.
Speaking in parliament this afternoon (Feb 12) Dr. Tufton noted that confirmation came by way of blood tests done at the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), in Trinidad.
Dr. Tufton said, of the remaining 23 cases, some were negative for dengue, while the results of others are pending.
The minister said so far this year, the ministry has recorded over 1160 suspected, presumed or confirmed dengue cases.
St. Catherine is the most affected parish.
