$8 B to remove schools from shift system

Education Minister, Fayval Williams said, it will cost the government almost 8 billion dollars, to remove 37 schools from the shift system, over time.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of four new classrooms at the Bellefield High School in Manchester, Mrs. Williams said, the government is committed to eliminating the shift system.

She also announced, that at the Bellefield High School, developmental plans will commence, for the construction of 20 new classrooms, among other facilities, in order to remove the school from the shift system.

Meanwhile, in commenting on the matter, opposition Senator Peter Bunting said, the government should focus more on removing schools from the shift system, and less on the Sixth Form Pathways Programme.

In response to Senator Bunting, the education minister said, the Sixth Form programme will provide additional opportunities for students.

She said the government can focus on both programmes.
