879 new COVID-19 cases, 14 deaths and 607 hospitalizations recorded yesterday

The country continues to see significant increases in the number of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

 

Some 879 new cases were recorded yesterday, pushing the overall count to 62 thousand 712. Of the new cases, 509 are females and 370 are males, with ages ranging from 2 days to 96 years.

 

Prior to today, the country recorded 878 cases on March 7.

 

Kingston and St. Andrew had the highest number of cases with 145, followed by Manchester with 121. St James and Westmoreland had 109 each, while St. Catherine had 105 cases.

 

St. Elizabeth had 60 cases, Clarendon had 56, Hanover had 52, Trelawny had 48, St. Thomas recorded 42, St. Ann saw 17 cases, St. Mary had 13 and Portland recorded 2 cases.

 

The ministry says the positivity rate is 43.9%.

 

Meanwhile, the 14 deaths occurred between Friday and Saturday , pushing the death tally to 1,402.

 

Three of the deceased are from St. Ann, two women and a man aged 57, 67, and 68.

 

Four women are from Westmoreland with ages ranging from 68 t0 83 years

 

St. Elizabeth recorded 2 deaths, a male and female aged 72 and 39, while St. Mary had 1 death – a man aged 77.

 

The other 4 deceased are from Kingston and St. Andrew and their ages ranged from 66 to 86 years. There was one coincidental death and two other deaths are under investigation.

 

And hospitalizations have gone up by 34 to 607. One hundred and twenty-five people are moderately ill, 83 are severely ill and 60 are critically ill.

 

Finally, 66 persons recovered leaving 13, 140 active cases.
