Police Commissioner: steps being taken to rid JCF of corruption

by January 23rd, 2020

Police Commissioner Antony Anderson has sought to reassure Jamaicans that steps are being taken to rid the force of cops reportedly involved in corruption.

The commissioner was a guest on Irie FM’s Stepping Razor programme with host Mutabuarka, this afternoon.

He noted that members undergo a rigorous vetting process, including polygraph testing that helps to ensure that those with the highest integrity are accepted during recruitment and promotions.

Commissioner Anderson said the police high command has taken a multi- pronged approach to tackling the issue of corruption in the force.  These include surveillance.

Commissioner Anderson said administrative procedures are also used to rid the force of cops who have done things that seem to be corrupt.

The police chief added that part of the anti-corruption measures is also changing the mind-set of cops.

When asked about cops who reportedly take money from motorists in exchange for not giving them a ticket for a breach, Commissioner Anderson said this issue is being tackled.
