Cecile raises serious questions amid Coronavirus outbreak

Following the outbreak of the Coronavirus in China, some entertainers are among the handful of Jamaicans questioning if our borders are being protected.

Female entertainer Cecile on Instagram asked, “With so much going on does anyone know if we screening for the coronavirus at our airports yet? We cannot afford to not be proactive.”

Music News understands that the Ministry of Health and Wellness is on high alert for the coronavirus. According to Portfolio Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, measures are being put in place to detect and combat the virus, which has already affected hundreds of people in sections of China, and other countries around the world.

The coronavirus causes illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Signs of infection include fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

On Monday, officials in the capital, Beijing, which has a population of about 21 million, announced the first death in the city from coronavirus. The patient, a 50-year-old man, had traveled to Wuhan on January 8 and developed a fever after returning to Beijing a week later.

He was diagnosed on January 22 and died of respiratory failure. Meanwhile, reports are that 81 people have died in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
