Quick action by Villa Road primary principal spared children

by January 27th, 2020

The quick action of the principal of the Villa Road primary and junior high school ensured the safety of students this morning.

Principal Brent James says he was in his office when he heard what sounded like a large unit reversing.

On seeing the gas truck at the gate, he said he reminded the security officer of the ministry’s policy regarding delivery and that the truck should not be granted access to the school compound.

He says the gas was ordered some time ago for the school’s canteen, but the delivery was made today, instead of the weekend as is the custom.

Principal James says the truck was not allowed onto the premises.

Mr. James explains that shortly afterwards he heard a sound that indicated a leak and immediately got into action urging teachers to get the grades one to three students to safety.

Their classrooms are near the canteen.

Mr. James says he saw that persons had been wounded and rushed three of them to hospital.

He says assessments are being carried out to determine the extent of the damage.
