Opposition calls for more protective gear for first responders

by February 2nd, 2020

In light of the new coronavirus which has led to a global state of emergency, the People’s National Party (PNP) is calling for more protective gear and other resources for first responders in Jamaica.

The PNP says, the call comes on the heels of concerns among health sector workers about the lack of resources in hospitals and the exposure of first responders to suspected cases of the coronavirus, which present to the island’s health facilities.

Noting, yesterday’s report of a suspected case of the virus at the Annotto Bay Hospital, the PNP states that, dissatisfaction among health care workers has escalated.

Speaking with Irie FM News, shadow minister for health, Dr. Morais guy, says the party was told that there is an insufficient amount of protective resources.

Dr. Guy adds that, while health workers do their best to protect the country, all efforts must be made to provide them with the necessary equipment to protect themselves.
