by February 24th, 2020

Incarcerated but not silenced, dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel continues to earn major accolades.

The latest accomplishment sees Kartel’s 2016 single FEVER, produced by TJ Records being certified GOLD by the Recording Industry Association of America.

A gold certification means that Vybz Kartel’s Fever featured on his album King Of The Dancehall has sold over 500,000 copies.

Vybz Kartel also made it to the list of the songs which defined the last decade, compiled by popular American music magazine, Pitchfork. Kartel’s “Clarks” which featured PopCaan and Vanessa Bling made The 200 Best Songs of the 2010s at number 161.

While in prison in 2012, Vybz Kartel’s book, The Voice Of The Jamaican Ghetto: Incarcerated but not Silenced, co-written with business associate Michael Dawson, was published. The book is currently available on Amazon for $8.99.

Over a year ago, in July 2018, attorneys representing Vybz Kartel, Shawn Storm, and their co-convicts, appeared before the Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn their convictions and sentences.

After over a year of delays, the men continue to wait for a delivery date on the ruling of the appeal, which is reportedly at an advanced stage according to a letter made public in December.

Dancehall deejays Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm, along with two other men were found guilty of the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, and are all currently serving life sentences since 2014.
