by March 30th, 2020

The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) wants the government to remove the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) on fuel in the short-term, and consideration given for full removal, as the transport sector buckles under pressure from the impact of Covid-19.

President Egeton Newman says this should be done as part of government’s stimulus package to help cushion the hardships faced by public transport operators.

The transport grouping joins the Jamaica Public Service (JPS), in calling for the removal of the SCT on fuel.

He says the public transport sector is losing about 25 % of its daily income.
