by April 6th, 2020

Principal of the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, Professor Dale Webber says the Covid-19 pandemic will deal a significant blow to the university’s finances.

Speaking at a town hall meeting at the weekend, Professor Webber lamented that the financial situation across several faculties was already bad, and will become even worse due to the pandemic.

He explained that the fall off will result due to several measures implemented to facilitate students negatively impacted by the pandemic.

Professor Webber said the university’s administration will be seeking further funding from the government.

At the same time, the principal noted that the university is aware of the economic challenges being faced by students that will impair their abilities to pay fees and will be putting several measures in place to assist them.

He added that all students will have access to the university’s online learning platform, regardless of whether or not they have financial clearance.
