Local jockeys feeling the pinch at Caymanas Park

by April 7th, 2020

A number of jockeys have fallen on hard times following the total shutdown of operations at Caymanas Park almost three weeks ago in light of Covid 19.

In response to a number of calls to Irie Fm’s sports desk we contacted jockeys guild president Shane Ellis, who says an approach has been made to the government for assistance for jockeys in the lower earning bracket.

To that effect he has requested those names from the welfare officer in the lower earning bracket.

Caymans Park, located in Gregory Park, St Catherine, is home to over 25 registered jockeys and more than 100 exercise riders.

It is understood that the exercise riders receive a mere $150 per horse that they work out each morning.
