Labour Minister Shahine Robinson has died

Minister of Labour and Social Security, and Member of Parliament for North East St. Ann, Shahine Robinson has died.

 

Mrs. Robinson, who was 66 years old, passed away today.

 

Reports had emerged earlier that she was ailing with cancer.

 

In responding to the minister’s death, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said she was a patriot, a servant of the people, a much loved political representative adored by her constituents, a humanitarian and great personal friend.

 

He said she fought courageously against her illness and her passing has left a deep sorrow.

 

Earlier today, the Senate suspended its sitting for ten minutes after it was announced that the minister had passed.

 

Several members of the government and opposition have joined in paying tribute to Mrs. Robinson.
