by June 3rd, 2020

Imagine students learning Science topics to the tune of their favourite dancehall and reggae beats, this is the aim of the conceptualizers of ‘Science Meets Dancehall.’

‘Science Meets Dancehall’, is an innovative educational development being relaunched under Science Genius Jamaica, a collaboration between Jamaican education consultant, Dr.Renee Rattray, and American Professor, Chris Emdin, founder of HipHopEd in the United States, a program that blends hip hop music with science.

First launched in 2017, #DancehallEd aims to use the power of dancehall music and culture, to introduce youth to the wonder and beauty of science, and science-related subjects. Science Meets Dancehall has been revamped and will relaunch virtually today, Wednesday, June 3, with the help of a number of reggae and dancehall entertainers as ambassadors.

Dancehall singjays, Wayne Marshall, and Tifa will return as ambassadors, as well as renowned reggae/dancehall producer, Mikey Bennett. In addition, reggae singers Jesse Royal, Tanya Stephens, Chevaughn, and dancehall deejay Agent Sasco will join the group of entertainers who will help to amplify the use of reggae and dancehall as an educational tool.

The Science Genius Jamaica, ‘Science Meets Dancehall’ educational initiative, is expected to be carried out virtually, for students and teachers at the primary, and secondary levels of education.
