Jamaican born Bronx Dancehall-HipHop singjay HoodCelebrityy has been slapped with a copyright infringement lawsuit from veteran dancehall deejay Nardo Ranks.

According to court documents obtained by the New York Post, Ranks has filed a complaint in the Manhattan federal court, stating that HoodCelebrityy given name Tina Pinnock, “pirated and extracted significant phrasing” from his 1992 hit ‘Dem A Bleach’, for her single ‘Run Di Road’ released on March 20.

In reports, Nardo Ranks’ attorney has been quoted saying “we acknowledge that imitation is the highest form of flattery but HoodCelebrityy imitated Nardo and calls it her own, that is breaking the law.”

‘Run Di Road’ by HoodCelebrityy which had an official music video premiere last week, was recorded in its entirety on the timeless dancehall ‘Bam Bam Riddim,’ and is a direct spin-off of the Sly and Robbie produced, Chaka Demus and Pliers ‘Murder She Wrote.’

Checks by Music News revealed a verse in the song which states, “An mi nuh bleach, mi nuh bleach out mi skin. Mi nuh bleach cah mi a born browning.”

Nardo Ranks who currently resides in Queens, New York, is seeking at least US$500,000 in damages.

HoodCelebrityy has since tweaked the lyrics for the song in the official music video.
