Rural customers of NWC told to brace for lock offs

by July 13th, 2015

National Water Commission customers in rural parishes are being told to brace for disruptions in their water supply, in light of the prevailing dry season.

Although the water agency in most cases has not indicated a scheduled disruption for rural customers due to the drought, the NWC is cautioning these customers to expect interruptions as its systems are being impacted.

Several water restriction measures have been implemented in the Kingston Metropolitan Region, with some customers receiving water, every other day.

The NWC says, about one hundred of its 460 water supply systems across the country, are being severely impacted by the drought.

Communication manager at the NWC Charles Buchanan, says while every parish is affected, most of the systems that are hard-hit, are primarily in southern, and eastern parishes.

He states that water restrictions differ in each case, based on the specific system, and the challenges being faced.

However, Mr Buchanan says in every instance where the commission is impacted by reduced inflows, it has implemented some measure to minimize the impact on customers, and to stretch the supplies.

He wants NWC customers, to include those in rural parishes, to store water, in the event that their water supply system is impacted negatively, by the drought.
