by August 18th, 2020

The Jamaica Labour Party’s candidates for Western St Mary Robert Montague and St. Catherine South Central Dr. Andrew Wheatley will both be nominated by senior members of their campaign teams and will not be physically present at their nominations on Tuesday.

JLP Campaign spokesperson Kamina Johnson Smith says the men are acting out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of the health and safety of their constituents and Jamaica as a whole.

A JLP statement explains that they were present at the same event as Mayor Richard Creary some 10 days ago and having learned of his positive test for the coronavirus, they both decided to isolate themselves and get tested.

Mr. Montague is awaiting the results of his test and Dr. Wheatley is awaiting the health authorities’ guidance for his test to be conducted.

Mrs. Johnson Smith adds that neither has any symptom, both feel in perfect health, and neither spent time in the company of Mayor Creary at the event.

She advises that both candidates have put all arrangements in place for their nomination in accordance with the law and are looking forward to the safe execution of nomination day activities by their teams.
