Island’s Trade Unions meeting to discuss agreement

by August 3rd, 2015

The island’s trade unions are to meet this week to review the 2015/2017 draft heads of agreement between trade unions and the finance ministry.

The draft document was sent to the umbrella group representing public sector workers- the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, J-C-T-U, for perusal before the parties sign.

It is understood that the government wants the agreement to be signed tomorrow, august 4, however according to J-C-T-U public sector committee Chairman, Keith Comrie, this is unlikely.

This as the individual unions will have to examine the draft document before the executive of the j-c-t-u meets to vote on the offer.

And Mr Comrie who is also President of the Union of Schools, Agriculture, and Allied Workers, U-S-A-A-W, says, so far, he has seen where several changes need to be made to about ten items in the draft heads of agreement.
