St. Ann Fires

by August 16th, 2015

The St Ann Fire Department is again warning residents against open burning, in light of the number of bush fires being recorded in the parish.

The Department says 130 bush fires were recorded last month.

This is a near 20% reduction when compared to the 162 bush fires recorded for June.

However, head of the St Ann Fire Department, Senior Deputy Superintendent, Anthony Hinds, says while the reduction is welcomed, the number of bush fires is still significant.

He says the volume of bush fires has impacted negatively on fire-fighters, as well as fire units, as there is only on main unit, and two large specialised units and they that are not able to access all locations.

The St Ann fire chief is reminding the public, that open fires are a risk to life and property, and impact negatively on the environment.
