Toots Hibbert’s body returned to morgue

by October 16th, 2020

The family of legendary Reggae singer Toots Hibbert was barred from laying him to rest on Thursday because they did not have a burial order.

The leader singer of the renowned Reggae Band, Toots and the Maytals was expected to be laid to rest at the Dovecot Memorial Gardens in St. Catherine.

However, the body had to be returned to the morgue because the burial order had apparently not been signed by the relevant authorities.

Music News understands that some members of the family did not want Toots to be buried at the Dovecot Memorial Park but in his hometown in Treadlight, Clarendon.

Meanwhile, efforts by Music News to get a comment from the family was futile.

A private funeral service was held at 11 am Thursday, at the chapel at Perry’s Funeral Home on the outskirts of Spanish Town, St. Catherine. Toots Hibbert died at the University Hospital of the West Indies on September 11, 12 days after being admitted after contracting COVID-19. He was 77.

On August 28, Toots Hibbert released his last album, ‘Got To Be Tough.’
