Several roads impassable after heavy rains this weekend

by November 9th, 2020

Several roadways across the island which were affected by heavy rainfall at the weekend are still impassable.

These include Font Hill Bridge in St. Thomas and the Guava Ridge and Gordon Town roads in St. Andrew.

The Gordon Town road is being impacted by a recurring landslide.

The National Works Agency (NWA) says continuous rainfall in the area and the instability of the embankment pose serious risks for clearance at this time.

Communication and Customer Services Manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw told Irie FM News that attention is being diverted from the Gordon Town main road to focus on an alternative route for residents.

Meanwhile, Mr. Shaw says work is also underway to clear the Bog Walk Gorge in St. Catherine and some major roadways in Clarendon.
