NRSC reminds citizens to not drink and drive

by December 25th, 2020

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, is appealing to Jamaicans to avoid drinking and driving during the yuletide season.

Speaking with Irie FM News, Dr. Jones said while the government is implementing steps to promote road safety, it is the responsibility of all Jamaicans to ensure their safety.

Noting that Jamaica has already missed its target of staying below 400 road deaths this year, Dr. Jones is stressing the importance of road users adhering to the road safety protocols, including to avoid drinking and driving.

Meanwhile, general practitioner Dr. Rohan Williams said drinking and driving is a dangerous combination, as alcohol impairs an individual’s judgement.

Dr. Williams added that alcohol consumption can also cause drivers to operate a motor vehicle recklessly.
