Jamaica’s all-time leading goal scorer Luton Shelton is dead.

Shelton was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2018 over a year after he was injured in a Red Stripe Premier League Game for Harbour V

Lou Gehrigs disease is a progressive neuro-degener-ative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

It’s understood that Shelton developed complications at his home earlier today and was pronounced dead at the Andrews Memorial Hospital.

Shelton represented Jamaica at the under 17, 20 and 23 levels and made his senior debut in 2008 and holds the record for scoring the most goals on debut which was four.

He was also the top goal scorer in 2010 CONCACAF World Cup qualification matches with seven goals and ended his international career with a Jamaican record 35 goals

Shelton represented Wolmer’s in the Manning Cup and played locally for Harbour View FC and overseas with the likes of Sheffield United in the English Premier League (EPL), and Valerenga (Norway) in the European Champions League.

He also had stints with Helsing-borg (Sweden), Kara-buk-spor (Turkey) and Volga Novgorod (Russia),
