Dancehall heavyweight Beenie Man will know his fate next month after pleading guilty to breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act.

Beenie Man appeared in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court today (April 19), where he pleaded not guilty to breaching the Noise Abatement Act. A charge that was not pursued by the prosecution. However, he is to be sentenced on May 17 for breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act.

The Dancehall deejay was charged in December after he allegedly hosted an illegal party on November 29, 2020, in the Shrewsbury district in the parish.

While speaking with reporters outside the courthouse today, Beenie Man said he was satisfied with the outcome of the case. He stated in part, “Them say the gathering under COVID law is against the law….Mi nuh wah nobody fi feel like mi above the law so we affi deal wid dat right and mek Jamaica feel safe and mek di people dem know dat we are wid dem.”

Fellow entertainers Fantan Mojah and Elephant Man are also before the court on similar charges.

Individuals found in breach of the health and safety protocols under the Disaster Risk Management Act can be charged with fines ranging from JA$3,000 to JA$500,000. Meanwhile, failure to stay inside during a curfew can attract a fine of JA$10,000.
