Jesse Royal teams up with Digicel to help Haile Selassie High School

by June 7th, 2021

In tune with the spirit of giving back, and wanting to see children improve their literary skills, Reggae singer Jesse Royal, has teamed up with the Digicel Foundation to fund the renovation of a reading room at the Haile Selassie High School in Kingston.

The $1.5 million refurbished modernized reading room includes a computer station, smart board, and flexible workstations.

Jesse Royal, who has always been intent on engaging students from the early childhood and primary education levels, with the hope of helping to culturally develop their minds through art and literacy via his Palace Pickney Foundation, recently visited the school for a tour of the new room, and noted the importance of getting on the ground, and doing the real work to inspire children and remind them that they are valued.

In 2019, Jesse Royal launched his Palace Pickney Foundation and began a series of sessions called ‘Circle Time.’

During the sessions, the Small Axe singer interacted with children at a number of local schools by reading books written by Jamaican authors, engaging in the Jamaican dialect, and using reggae music and beats as a creative means to educate and uplift children.
