by July 16th, 2021

The results of the 2021 Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations will be available on the education ministry’s website at 2 PM today (July 16).

Education Minister Fayval Williams made the announcement while speaking at a press conference this morning.

She said 37, 237 students were registered to sit the grade six pep abilities test, with 37,139 turning up for the test on the day; 4,420 of those who sat were private candidates.

Minister Williams noted that this group of grade six students will be placed in high schools using their 2019 grade four performance task scores, along with the grade 6 PEP abilities test.

She said parents will be able to access the results through the online parent portal today, or by contacting the ministry’s regional offices.

Meanwhile, the Education Minister said 84% of the grade six students that sat this year’s PEP examinations were placed in one of the schools of their choice.

Mrs. Williams said another 13.6% of the students were placed in schools based on either proximity to their current attending institutions or their homes.

She said a hybrid approach was used to place students on pathways categorized as beginning, developing, proficient, and highly proficient based on their literacy test and the Language Arts performance task.

For the mathematics test at the grade four level, less than 48% of students achieved proficiency or high proficiency.

For the language arts test at the grade four level, approximately 56% of students achieved proficiency or high proficiency.

Meanwhile, at the grade six level tests done this year, Minister Williams said the students’ performance was satisfactory.

She added that there were 27 special needs students registered for the pep exams this year. They were assessed and placed in schools that were prepared to accommodate their unique abilities.
