New Police Vehicles

The mobility of the police force has been improved with the acquisition of 64 new vehicles.

The vehicles were handed over by National Security Minister, Peter Bunting on the grounds of the Office of the Commissioner on Old Hope Road in Kingston this morning (November 09, 2015).

The 64 vehicles will be deployed to all divisions.

Police commissioner, Dr Carl Williams says priority will be given to troubled divisions in Hanover, St James and Westmoreland.

Rural areas where there are challenges in murders will also be given priority for deployment.

Dr Williams says the 64 vehicles are in addition to another 24 pickups that will be procured to augment the fleet of police vehicles in short order.

 

 

Meanwhile the Police Commissioner has announced that the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) annual pre-Christmas surge will start this week.

He says the pre-Christmas surge will begin earlier this year in response to some incidents in the past few weeks.

The surge will consist of vehicle check points established at major areas where they can intercept criminals moving from one place to another.

Dr Williams says the handing over of the vehicles will greatly assist the police in carrying out the operation.

 

 

In the meantime, National Security Minister, Peter Bunting says the provision of the vehicles, signals government’s commitment to equip the police to tackle crime.

He says the vehicles will increase the mobility of the force to carry out its  duties.
