National Epidemiologist Dr. Karen Webster-Kerr is reporting that the country has been seeing an uptick in Covid-19 cases, over the past few weeks.
Dr. Webster–Kerr noted that the country’s infection rate has moved from 6 percent in recent weeks to 7.6 percent, as at yesterday (July 20).
She said the current reproductive number for both admissions and confirmed cases is at 1.1 percent, which indicates that for the past few weeks, cases have been rising.
She was supported by Minister of Health Dr. Christopher Tufton, who explained that any number above one indicates that the virus is spreading at a rapid rate.
Meantime, the country recorded it’s highest rate of 1.3 last March in the peak of the pandemic.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor Mckenzie, outlined that the country can easily return to 1.3 and as such, the current rate is very worrying.
They were speaking at Parliament’s Joint Select Committee on Covid, yesterday.
