Next major COVID vaccination session for everyone over 18 years old

by July 23rd, 2021

The next major COVID vaccination session will be open to everyone over the age of 18 years, and it’s expected that they will get their shots over the next 2 months.

Speaking at Thursday evening’s COVID conversations press briefing, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton explained that this is dependent on the delivery of vaccine supplies, over the next few weeks.

While declining to give specific dates, Dr. Tufton said vaccines are soon to come from the United Kingdom, through the African Medical Supplies Platform, as well as via COVAX.

Dr. Tufton said for that major session, the ministry will focus on mobile units, as opposed to blitz sites.

The minister said the intention is to vaccinate about 9 hundred thousand persons, by September.

Meantime, the Health Ministry has expressed concern about a growing trend of funerals being held at homes, with gatherings that breach COVID protocols.  The issue was highlighted by National Epidemiologist Dr. Karen Webster Kerr during the COVID conversations press briefing.

She noted that in recent weeks, Westmoreland and Hanover recorded the 2 highest number of COVID cases.  In seeking to determine the cause of the spike, health officials made checks and found that citizens are not obeying the protocols.
