Gov’t taking steps to amend legislation to increase penalties for praedial larceny

by August 5th, 2021

The government is taking steps to amend legislation that will see penalties for praedial larceny being increased.

Agriculture Minister Floyd Green said among the changes being contemplated is the imposition of heftier fines.

He said the $250,000 fine is not an effective deterrent.

Mr. Green has also revealed that the Specialised Praedial Larceny Unit in the police force has been doing well in tackling the problem.

Last year over one hundred arrests were made.

He added that the government remains committed to rolling out the Agricultural Warden Programme.

He was speaking yesterday (August 4) at the Small Ruminant Seminar in Clarendon.
