Covid-19 hospitalizations increase to 256, alongside 315 new cases and 5 more deaths, yesterday

Within the space of a day, 37 more persons have been hospitalized with Covid-19.

The tally is now 256, up from 219 yesterday (August 6).

Among the 256 patients are 56 moderately ill and 28 critically ill.

The Health Ministry is also reporting 5 additional Covid-19 related deaths, pushing the tally to 1,219.

The deceased are a 67-year-old man from St. Ann, a 97-year-old man from Manchester, as well as an 82-year-old woman and two men aged 49 and 68 respectively, all from Kingston and St. Andrew

2 other deaths are now under investigation.

The Health Ministry said 40 more persons have recovered, pushing the tally to 47,192.

5,702 cases are active.

315 new cases were recorded yesterday, pushing the country’s case count to 54,480.

Of the new cases, 185 are females, while 130 are males.

They range in age from 2 months to 93 years.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases with 91, followed by St. Catherine with 51.

The positivity rate is 31.3 percent.
