Some ground transport operators in Ocho Rios, St. Ann are calling on the government to implement a plan that will allow them to benefit financially, from the return of cruise ships to the town.

The Carnival Sunshine docked in Ocho Rios this morning (August 16), with some 3,000 persons aboard.

However only some transport operators were allowed to interact with the tourists.

This, resulted in a number of transport operators expressing anger at the situation, noting that only established transport companies are allowed to benefit.

Speaking with Irie Fm News, one JUTA Operator says it is heartrending that after being inactive for over a year, the smaller operators were excluded from today’s proceedings.

Another operator noted that problems are looming if the smaller transport operators are not included in the future.

The Carnival Sunshine is the first cruise ship to arrive since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, only selected persons were allowed at the pier, which had a strong security presence.
