Queen’s warehouse remains closed

by November 11th, 2015

The Jamaica Customs Agency says the Queen’s Warehouse located on Spanish Town Road in Kingston remains closed to staff and members of the public pending further investigation.

The warehouse was closed on Monday, due to the possible release of a hazardous material in the stripping section of the facility.

Following reports of the possible release, the Occupational Health and Safety Unit  made contact with the Ministry of Health, the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the National Environment And Planning Agency (NEPA), to ensure swift investigation into the matter.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade visited the facility on Monday and took precautionary steps, which included air testing, and cordoned off the facility.

Teams from the NEPA, the fire brigade and the ministry of health carried out further assessment at the facility yesterday (November 10).

Employees, who were directly exposed, have received medical attention and have been relocated to the Jamaica Customs Agency’s head office.

The facility will return to its normal operations, once the agency receives clearance from the relevant authorities engaged in assessment, investigation and mitigation.
