Placard bearing residents of Rivoli in St Catherine took to the streets this morning, protesting the death of a resident.

It’s reported that the man was fatally shot during a confrontation with police on the compound of the police station along Martin Street.

The dead man has been identified as 22-year-old Romaine Williams of Monk Street.

According to the police, one 9 millimeter Ruger pistol and ammunition were seized.

The residents are disputing the police reports of what happened. They are saying the man was not armed, as is being reported, describing him as an angel. The protestors mostly women say they will intensify their actions to get justice.

The Independent Commission of Investigations says it has commenced a probe into the incident, which occurred sometime between three and four p-m yesterday (November 10).

Reports are that the young man was picked up by police and there was a tussle between the man and an officer.  Two other officers intervened and it is reported that a gun was brandished and the man was shot.
