Despite the recent fluctuations in the Jamaican dollar, the rate of depreciation so far this year, is significantly lower than that of the similar period last year.

Governor of the Bank of Jamaica, Richard Byles says the dollar has depreciated by some 8 per cent this year, compared to 12 per cent last year.

Meanwhile, Governor Byles notes that Jamaica’s foreign currency flow has remained strong, despite the economic uncertainties brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He adds that the bank continues to intervene in the market when temporary shortfalls of foreign currency have arisen.
