Jamaica en route to vaccinating half a million people

Jamaica is on its way to vaccinating half a million people against Covid-19 in the coming days.

This, as close to 480,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered across the island since the start of the vaccination programme.

Yesterday (August 24), marked the end of a four day vaccination blitz, targeting children 12 years and older, and other stakeholders of the education sector.

The blitz was facilitated by the arrival of 208,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only Covid vaccine authorized for use in children.

Speaking to early childhood practitioners’ & proprietors’ at a back to school conference yesterday, Director of Family Health Services in the Ministry of Health & Wellness, Dr. Melody Ennis, noted that some 476,000 people had been vaccinated to date.

She implored teachers to get vaccinated so that they can return to the classrooms by mid October.
