Over 21,000 Jamaicans vaccinated yesterday; vaccination for all age groups resumes today

The Health Ministry says over 21,000 Jamaicans were vaccinated yesterday (August 24), the highest number of persons vaccinated in one day, since the Covid-19 vaccination programme began in March.

The Ministry says approximately 40 per cent of those vaccinated yesterday, were children between 12 and 18 years old and the remainder were persons over 18 years.

Portfolio Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says the high turn out is good news for the country.

He says vaccination of citizens in all age groups will resume today (August 25).

The University Hospital of the West Indies in a tweet yesterday, said in addition to the Astrazeneca vaccine, it will be administering the Johnson and Johnson, from 9am to 3pm.

Meantime, the South East Regional Health Authority, SERHA, is calling on all retired doctors and nurses, to provide sessional services in public health facilities.

In a post on its Twitter page, SERHA noted, that with the surge in Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations, the health system needs their support, as the country works its way through the pandemic.
