Cruise Ship returns to Ocho Rios but craft traders say there is still no business

by August 25th, 2021

Despite an assurance from the Tourism Ministry that it would ensure that persons benefit from the arrival of cruise ships at the Ocho Rios Port in St. Ann, some craft vendors say the situation remains the same.

Following the arrival of the Carnival Sunrise cruise ship for the first time in months, last week, some craft vendors and tour bus operators said they were denied access to the tourists.

This was due, in part to the tight protocols implemented, as a result of the Covid pandemic.

However, the Tourism Ministry had said consultations have been held with various stakeholders, and steps were being taken to ensure persons benefit from the ship’s visit, despite the stringent health protocols.

However, as the ship docked at the port on its second visit this morning (August 25), there were reports that craft vendors are still not benefiting.

Marketing Manager for the Ocho Rios Craft Market Dennis Gordon told Irie Fm News that he was looking forward to the change, but the issue remains the same.

Meantime, President of the Pineapple Craft Market, Claire Bruce says she is hopeful that vendors will eventually benefit.
