Jamaica surpasses 500,000 COVID-19 vaccinations

Jamaica surpassed 500,000 COVID-19 vaccinations today (August 26).

 

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton made the announcement, in a tweet this afternoon.

 

He said this is a big milestone for Jamaica, and that the country is well on the way to meeting the target of 700,000 vaccinations by the end of September.

 

Jamaica saw a record number of vaccinations on Tuesday when some 21,000 people received the jab.

 

In recent days, Jamaica has received 208,000 doses of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pfizer vaccine and another 115,000 doses of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson shots.

 

Meanwhile, the country received another 200,000 doses of AstraZeneca from the Canadian government today.

 

The donation brings to 820,000, the number of vaccines received so far this month.
